I sat under eye sockets of wind-chiseled rock, sifting through the dry remains of his old meals: black and white hairs, a needle-sized rib-bone, a cross of vertebrae, several berry seeds, a broken shell of skull, a matchstick oflegbone, a blue breast feather, and a claw of crow. The remnants of what is left behind tell what is needed to survive. For the coyote: many mice, a lizard, and parts oftwo birds.
