Abstract

Following the Howard Government's changes to Australia's defence policy, some of the assumptions that inform the normally closed world of strategic planning are questioned. The most crucial element of Australia's strategic position is that the country is one of the most -perhaps the most - secure place on the planet, at least when judged by a conventional strategic calculus.
