Abstract

In April 2017, the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA) and Federation of Archaeological Managers and Employers (FAME) held a session entitled ‘A broader vision for Brexit: Impacts and advocacy for a global profession’ at CIfA’s annual conference in Newcastle. This article presents a viewpoint from the profession as we stand at the brink of a momentous process for the UK. Brexit promises to create new challenges and opportunities for archaeology and these will fundamentally shape the sector’s advocacy for many years to come. Standing at this critical point in time, we outline here, the potential impacts of Brexit and look forward to how the sector needs to influence government to protect archaeology.
