Abstract

AbstractIt is widely believed that paraneoplastic neurological syndromes with antibodies against intracellular antigens are a cytotoxic T‐cell‐mediated disease triggered in the process of cancer immunity. During this process, coactivation of a humoral immune mechanism is elicited, and autoantibodies against onconeural antigens are produced. These onconeural proteins are usually located in the neuronal cytoplasm or nucleus, and are not targets of antibody‐mediated neuronal damage. Greenlee et al. asserted that the anti‐Yo antibody had a direct effect on Purkinje cell apoptosis, which conflicts with the commonly believed view.
