Abstract
RESUSCITATION of the newborn infant is one of the major problems in the delivery room. The specific mode of treatment is still a controversial issue, and each clinic has its own routine to care for the emergency of neonatal asphyxia. The use of positive air pressure for expansion of the lungs is a practice which dates back to the first use of mouth to mouth breathing, and it has since been refined by the introduction of mechanical devices which control the pressure of the air inflow. The danger of overinflation of the lung is one which is not to be ignored, and in the opinion of some authors it should be a procedure only of last resort. 1 The following is a report of a case in which the use of positive pressure insufflation resulted in a fatal outcome.
