Abstract

We will all, at some stage in our lives, experience and encounter a sense of loss. In both our personal, and professional, lives we will be exposed to the internal and external processes of perceiving and responding to loss, or grieving. We grieve for the real and concrete, physical losses such as illness and death. We grieve also for the psychological or symbolic losses, such as the changing roles and responsibilities that accompany our illness. As individuals the feelings of grief and bereavement we experience are unique but we share a commonality in our possible reactions and responses to it and in the processes we pursue in re-living the pain and suffering.
