Abstract

This article seeks to show how The Truth Commissioner by David Park ultimately undermines the current optimistic discourse in Northern Ireland. My contention will be that Park’s novel, by corroborating some aspects of the dominant discourse about masculinity and questioning others, constitutes a counter-narrative which builds up an interstitial space and reveals a deep malaise.
