Abstract

This paper addresses the problem of interference in thin films on the basis of the refined unambiguous angles of incidence, reflection, and refraction disclosed earlier by the author with simultaneous use of the generalized vectorial laws of reflection and refraction reported by the author in 2005. Novel unambiguous expressions for the optical path difference between two adjacent reflected (refracted) rays in the reflected (transmitted) system have been achieved and they ultimately led to the development of novel unambiguous conditions for brightness and darkness of interference fringes in the reflected (transmitted) system. The cases of both parallel-sided as well as wedge-shaped films have considered for dealing with the relevant problem.
