Abstract

This text examines the participation of the Armed Forces in the containment of social and student protests during the 1960s. Analyzes the material and human conditions of the Mexican Armed Forces in the decade; outlines a list of the popular protests of the period 1958-1968 in which the army intervened to suffocate them. The cases of Michoacan 1966, Sonora 1967 and the 1968 student movement in Mexico City are carefully studied. Finally, the role played by the feeling of guilt for the events of October 2 in the Armed Forces and how it resulted in the production of military versions of the 1968 student movement is analyzed.
