Abstract

This chapter commends especially use and benefit of Holy Scripture in Church of Christ. It treats perspicuity and interpretation of Holy Scripture. The lucid quality or perspicuity of Holy Scripture is considered in two ways: either absolutely and by itself, or in relation to one and one's intellect. For since Holy Scripture proceeded from Father of lights, it is impossible that it should not possess in itself truth and purest light, whereby minds of those who come to know it are illumined, and are freed from darkness of error. For this reason Scripture is also called Wisdom, and the storehouse of knowledge, and its purity is affirmed to be like gold seven times refined, and more precious than jewels. The power of interpretation or passing judgment is two-fold: either public, or private; and both of them rest upon a special calling and gift. Keywords: Church of Christ; Father of lights; Holy Scripture; perspicuity; wisdom
