This essay provides a critical and reflexive reconstruction of the itinerary of an important sector of Spanish historiographical research over the past 30 years, namely the route taken by Spanish historians from the adoption and application of the so-called history of mentalities until its replacement by the more complex and subtle history of cultural practices, also applied to the specific sphere of the history of publishing and books
