Abstract

What happens to Greco-Roman myths for a young author in the age of the mediacracy, when their learning is no longer primarily framed by the school, but relayed by various media? This question is addressed using the work of Axel Cornil, one of Belgium’s leading French-language playwrights, born in 1990. What is the particularity of the author’s relationship with myths as a citizen of the hyper-mediatised cultural world, reflecting the concerns, desires and difficulties of a generation marked by the rise of mediacracy? What hermeneutic approach does he apply to myths, and what implications does this have for the mythocritical tools to be deployed?
