In the focus of our research is the existing theory of the de Haas–van Alphen effect. We show that the Lifshitz–Kosevich formula represents, up to a factor, the amplitude of Fraunhofer diffraction by a circular aperture with radius dependent on the extremal value of the cross-sectional area of Fermi surface.
