Abstract
La presencia de españoles en el continente americano ha sido objeto de atención para muchos investigadores durante las últimas décadas del siglo XX. Son abundantes las publicaciones sobre las listas de pasajeros que se trasladaron a América desde mediados del siglo XVI. El objeto de este trabajo es confirmar la presencia de más de una docena de ingenieros militares en la construcción del sistema defensivo de Extremadura y Puerto Rico, cuya labor ha pasado desapercibida para la mayoría de los expertos en la materia.
