Abstract

Abstract Boswellia serrata has been shown to reduce cerebral edema following radiation in brain tumors by Kirste et al in a prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind pilot trial. In the study dose of Boswellia used was 4200mg/day, and was well tolerated. We report 2 patients who took doses 10x that which was recommended, after inadvertently buying much higher doses online. Both patients obtained significant reduction in cerebral edema and enhancing disease on MRI. The daily dose of 42000mg/day was tolerated well, with only mild dysphonia in one patient. The optimal dosing of Boswellia serrata to treat cerebral edema is not known, and should be studied further.
