Abstract

This article proposes a novel dc–dc topology, enabling a plug-in electric vehicle to charge its high-voltage battery using a wireless power transfer system. By interfacing the wireless power transfer system's receiver coil to the electric vehicle's on-board bidirectional conductive charger, a common rectifier and secondary matching capacitors are shared between the two subsystems. The bidirectional dc–dc converter within the on-board charger is optimized to operate over two frequency bands; thus, guaranteeing compliance with the working frequency and interoperability requirements proposed by the SAE J2954 for a wireless power transfer system without degrading the power density requirement of a bidirectional on-board charger. Through component sharing between the two subsystems, a reduction in the overall size and cost of the on-board electronics is achieved. Simulation results are provided to validate the fundamental operation of the proposed circuit. Finally, a prototype is built to validate the assumptions.
