Abstract
The d.c. I-V characteristics of a Josephson junction are investigated with respect to fluctuations of the electromagnetic environment. We treat tunnelling as a perturbation using a tunnel Hamiltonian for single electrons. In the limit of high gap energy Δ we reproduce the results of recent works where the charge transfer is described by the Josephson potential - EJ cos (2φ). Some corrections for finite Δ are outlined which differ from previous results.
