Abstract

The article presents an unpublished fragmentary base in faience with a short hieroglyphic inscription. Although the owner’s name is not preserved, the little base deserves attention. The text shows that the base and its missing statuette were produced for king Amenhotep III. The combination of the blue colours of the fragment - light blue for the body of the base and cobalt blue for the inlaid hieroglyphs - provide confirmation of the date to Amenhotep III’s reign. The text records some interesting epithets which were part of the solar terminology used by the king to emphasise his identification as a living and divine solar manifestation. These epithets and their textual parallels are also analysed.
