Abstract

The first evidence of a daytime ionospheric effect associated with an X-ray flare from the celestial X-ray source Scorpius XR-1 occurring on October 15, 1967 is presented. The effect is a decrease in the field strength of 164 kHz radio waves received at a great circle distance of about 1600 km from the sender. Ion production calculations for this event are given.
