Abstract

Although an increase in clinical pregnancy rate following day 3 versus day 2 embryo transfer (ET) has been demonstrated, consequent miscarriage abolishes this beneficial effect. Moreover, day 2 ET has been reported to improve IVF-ET outcome in poor-responding patients by reducing environmental stresses imposed on embryos by in vitro culture (Frankfurter et al, Fertil Steril, sppl, 2003). The topic of preferential transfer on day 2 or day 3 remains controversial. To further address this issue, we compared our experience of day 2 ET with day 3 ET in poor prognosis patients, defined as those patients in whom all embryos generated are transferred without selection.
