Abstract

This 10th edition of the popular original Christopher Textbook of Surgery , previously edited by Davis, is even more outstanding under the editorship of Sabiston. The single volume is enormous in size, increased by almost one third in the number of pages over the last edition. Accordingly, the print is somewhat smaller. Emphasis has been given to an increased number of valuable illustrations. The chapters have been increased from 40 to 57, expanding in areas such as cardiovascular surgery, transplantation and other new fields. This increases the scope and value of the text: it even includes a handy reference section on normal laboratory values. Some of the chapters, written by one author in the previous edition, have been broken down into subheadings so that several authors contribute to the same general subject. The number of contributors, from all over the United States, Canada, England and Australia, has been more than doubled.
