Abstract

Built of the same Texas limestone used to construct the Alamo, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) Library shares ground with that famous structure. Although the state of Texas owns the building and the grounds on which it stands, the DRT owns the contents. The library was opened in 1945, and the collection focuses on the period in Texas history, 1836–1846, when Texas was a country unto itself.
