Abstract

Grammars (i.e., descriptive grammars of individual languages) and dictionaries (both explanatory dictionaries and translation dictionaries) are used mainly as reference works. Online versions of these works are beneficial for both producers and users. Online reference works can be enhanced greatly compared with their printed version, using video and speech techniques. Another advantage of online reference works is that they can be easily updated. For the producer (the publisher) this means that errors can be corrected virtually instantly, and updates can be produced at little cost. For the user it means up-to-date information. Additional advantages for the user include the possibility of searching dictionaries and grammars using the search facilities built into the online reference work through hyperlinks or those of the web browser.
