Abstract
FIRST, as regards the use of the word 'data' as a singular noun in the collective sense, I should never use it myself, and my phrase, "There may sometimes be an excuse..." was at the beginning of a sentence, the omission of the second half of which gives a false impression. What was obviously intended by my sentence was, "There is little enough excuse ... but there is none at all..."
