Abstract

Data from the data warehouse are then fed to analytics and business intelligence (BI) applications. The output of these applications is fed to both BI and decision support applications. BI applications, in contrast, include query and reporting tools, such as dashboards. BI applications are used retrospectively to identify and help visualize patterns, such as historical trends in data. If there's a bad category associated with the use of a data warehouse to feed analytical and BI applications, it has to be physician behavior and resistance to being monitored on a daily basis. Whether the basis of BI or analytics, or both, the cleaned, synchronized data in a data warehouse present a cleaner, easier-to-access store that can be used as the basis for decision support. Related to the bad category, the primary ugly aspect of the data warehouse system depicted in the potential for physicians to game the system.
