Abstract

The quick development of intelligent electric substations has significantly improved the operational performance of power utilities through incorporating advanced monitoring and control functionalities. The data traffic patterns in intelligent substation communication network (SCN) needs to be better understood and characterized, so as to improve the SCN performance and planning. This paper presents a FARIMA based solution for SCN data traffic characterization in intelligent substations based on real data measurements. The effectiveness of the proposed threshold model is evaluated and validated through numerical analysis.
