Abstract

This work is concerned with the accuracy of a star mapper devoted to satellite attitude estimation. The instrument accuracy depends both on its design and its output signal processing. Keeping into account the on board computational problems, a simple estimation procedure is deduced on the basis of a Fourier analysis of the star mapper output signal. The estimate variance is first obtained in the form of a functionof the star mapper design parameters. Then, it is minimized and an optimal star mapper design is obtained.
