Abstract

A study was attempted to identify the different types of non-coding RNA from skeletal muscles of Indian sheep. RNA sequencing data of muscle samples of 4 Bandur and 4 non-descript sheep were analyzed to identify the diverse non-coding RNA molecules. The COMPSRA pipeline (COMprehensive Platform for Small RNA Analysis) was applied to extract RNAs. Several miRNAs, piRNAs, snRNAs, snoRNAs, circRNAs and tRNAs were detected in the samples. Maximum number of circRNAs was detected followed by piRNAs and miRNAs in the muscle samples of sheep. This study is a step towards recognizing the non-coding RNAs in skeletal muscles of Indian sheep. Further, studies in the identification and delineation of biological roles of non-coding RNAs are required to improve understanding of complex biological processes of muscle development.
