Abstract

This Chapter reviews commercially-available, state-of-the-art data mining tools. The driving force for these tools is the desire to offer an easy-to-use data mining facility for non-technical decision makers. As pointed out by [Shearer & Khabaza 96], this kind of user is typically an expert in the company’s business and in the meaning of a company’s data, but typically has very little knowledge of data analysis and intelligent data mining techniques. It should be noted that expertise on the contents and meaning of the data is usually just as important as expertise in problem solving on the application domain [Piatetsky-Shapiro et al. 96].
