Abstract

KEYWORDS Rural and urban schools; teachers; students; data management; subject syllabus ABSTRACT This study identified, analyzed the availability, management and impact of accurate data management in the administration of private and public secondary schools. Three instruments made-up of two checklist with forty-seven items each and a 16 item questionnaire was administered to 2979 respondents in 273 secondary schools used in this study. Three research questions were raised and six hypothesis were formulated, answered and tested respectively using frequency percentage, chi-square and analysis of variance at 0.05 level of significance. Results revealed the availability and accurate measurement of the following data in schools: attendance register, weekly dairy of work, school time-table, lesson note and plan, subject syllabus and duty roster. There is difference in the availability and management of the data between private and public schools. There is no significant difference in the availability of data in rural and urban schools. Principals and teachers in public and private schools identified enhancement of decision making, accurate assessment of teachers and students, promotion of reliable and adequate planning as impacts of accurate data management in the Administration of secondary schools.
