Abstract

Abstract This qualitative cross-sectional study “Awareness on Infection Control of the Bio-Safety Laboratory Workers in Tertiary Level Private Hospital in Dhaka City of Bangladesh” was conducted among 120 Bio-Safety Laboratory Workers who are working at united hospital (tertiary private) in Dhaka city. The study was to explore the level of knowledge about infection control guidelines among Bio-safety laboratory workers, find out the level of infection prevention practices investigate infection control logistics and identify the training level needed. The study was to conduct interview on total 120 Bio-Safety Laboratory Workers who were chosen by random sampling and interviewed on their knowledge about Infection Control and practice of the study suggested that, most of the respondent had a Diploma in Medical Technology (Lab). 49% respondents mentioned that they have to face the problems, whereas non-cooperation as a problem was identified by 20% respondents. About 37% respondents mentioned Noso -comical as a common infection in the hospital. Most of the respondents mentioned lack of proper cleanliness as a cause of infection in the hospital and 43% respondents demonstrated that infection transmission can be direct. Respondents also mentioned (46.8%) that, use of proper equipment is necessary for this reason, whereby, 45% respondents cited autoclave as a method of sterilization. Observing the vital signs as a care management was passed on by 24.3% respondents. In response to the challenges, 37.2% respondents mentioned about hand wash practice and 34.3% respondents mentioned central sterile as a precaution method. Though, 33.9% respondents distinguished Proper disposal of Sharp as an infection control system available, still a lot precaution is to be initiated. 58.3% use Hexisol as antiseptic and Methylated spirit was used by 41% respondents as surgical dressing chemical. 75% of the respondents reported lack of proper monitoring system to be a major problem for following the guidelines, whereas 22.9% mentioned about ensuring use of antiseptic and proper wash as a preventive measurement. Respondents also emphasized on wearing mask and gloves, proper disposal of waste, initiation of training for improvement of the situation. In the study finds that, infection control still needs a lot focus for maintaining as a safeguard. It is necessary to ensure the proper hygiene and health practices along with infection prevention and control measures, so that they patients can stay away from the health hazards as stay secured and sound. Initiating proper motivation and knowledge building, networking between healthcare service providers and policy makers can thus ensure healthier society in tomorrow.
