Abstract

The expansion of the industrial and manufacturing sectors is crucial to the economic well-being of all nations. Problems arise because this development is inevitably accompanied by air, water, and other types of pollution that are commonly linked to human health issues and climatic shifts. Thus, we need to think about how to strike a balance between economic growth and pollution reduction in order to keep global society as stable as possible. It is generally agreed that data envelopment analysis (DEA) is one approach of assessing sustainability. Therefore, this chapter is aimed at providing a comprehensive knowledge to the researchers and practitioners on the use of DEA in the field of energy and environment, including a discussion of the key principles and methodology in DEA used in environmental evaluation. This chapter, together with the explanation of conceptual and methodological advances, will serve as a road map for researchers' future investigations into the effects of DEA on energy and environmental problems.
