Abstract

Data collection is a basic task of wireless sensor network (WSN). Recently; mobile sink had been utilized for energy-efficient data collection (MSE2DCS) scheme for query-driven data delivery in tree topology WSN and mobile cellular network (MCN) convergence system. In this project, user equipments (UEs) are equipped with WSN air-interface and act as mobile gateways for supervisory control of WSN data gathering and act as intermediate data link (backhaul) for the WSN. Most of previous works are proposed to look for a shortest path to the mobile sink (user equipment) irrespective of the heavy signaling overhead and high latency caused by the frequent updating of network topology and routing. Moreover, in most cases, there is no need of frequently collecting data from the same sensors. Here, the user equipment acts as a mobile sink to activate the sensors for data collection/transmission. Data validity period is introduced to avoid repeatedly collecting data from the same sensors. The WSN's sensors are activated only at the time of data delivery. By implementing MSE2DCS, only necessary sensors should be activated for data delivery while the other sensors could be sleeping to save energy. MATLAB Simulation results demonstrate that MSE2DCS saves energy.
