Abstract

The Data-Based Computer System newly developed for the design of pressure vessels has overcome some of the difficulties which were incidental to conventional computer systems. The system fulfills most functions for ordinary type pressure vessels including cost optimization, automated material selection, etc. and meets the requirements of both ASME VIII-1 and Japanese regulations. A combination of a built-in data base and POL (Problem Oriented Language) allows the reduction of the amount of input and promotes effective and easy man-machine communication. Ease of maintenance and capacity for expansion allow prompt adaptation to the up-to-date requirements of the codes and standards.
