Abstract

In this paper we would like to present a survey of one main basic component for a Decision Support System, namely the Knowledge System. For components of this kind we describe a design with a 3-level architecture of a relational deductive data base management system. The three main components of this system are the user interface, deduction processor and data base interface. A very comfortable user interface with xx-languages is available to the user. Within it he can describe a model — a subpart of the real world — through facts and rules, based on a relational data base. The deduction processor operates on this knowledge base. The data base interface supports the knowledge transformation between the external data base and the system. The realization of a system — such as the one suggested here — seems to be very useful for solving the difficult problem of a Knowledge System component in the Decision Support System subject area.
