Abstract

This chapter presents the data analytic approaches to human behavioral relationships in a survey of accidents. Most analyses of bicycle accidents among traffic accidents have been conducted from the viewpoint of the bicycle rider as the victim, or weaker participant, in traffic. The chapter presents a study that has an objective to reanalyze the bicycle accidents from the viewpoint that the bicycle rider is the actual cause of the accident. The study clarifies what constitutes a dangerous riding style. The chapter presents a survey of the riding styles, such as riding double, riding without lights, riding with traffic, and riding bicycles with multiple gears; actual and near accidents have also been investigated. To extract the cause of accident, the data obtained has been analyzed using Hayashi's quantification method III. Using the results obtained, the relationship between riding style and accidents can be explained.
