Abstract

In conjunction with the activities of the Electronic Industries Association (EIA): Efforts to develop a U.S. recommended standard for Broadcast Teletext, the author describes the objectives of field tests being conducted under EIA auspices. Test hardware and methods which permit real time capture of data are identified and discussed. The need for performing testing which is independent of a specific hardware or system implementation is set forth. Data analysis methods and procedures which reduce the raw captured data to a form which can be used to realize the objectives of the testing are described. Samples of presentation formats developed by the author are exhibited. These sample presentation formats are analyzed to demonstrate how they might be used for actual data, to derive insights into performance of a Teletext system at various data transmission rates.
