Abstract

The article questions the wide-spread belief in the »success story« of the neoliberal »economic miracle« Mexico's during the administration of Miguel de la Madrid (1982 - 1988) and Salinas de Gortari (1988 - 1994). The latest economic crisis, which began just before the end of 1994 is analyzed as an expression of the inherent weakness of the mexican economy and the structural antinomies of the neoliberal strategy.
