Abstract

In her later texts Lenka Reinerová obviously idealizes the Prague of the 1920s and the 1930s and so also the picture of the so-called First Republic (1918–1938). For her, this period becomes a model for the present and future relationships among different nationalities, religions and cultures worldwide. In Das Traumcafé einer Pragerin (1996), Reinerová proceeds from the Prague microcosm and further extends this model. However, the narrator is aware of the fact that the suggested utopia cannot be realized. Although in almost all of Lenka Reinerová’s texts the positive impetus prevails, a slightly sceptical tone can be observed, too.
