Abstract

Relationships for the dependence of the reversible polarographic half-wave potential of metal ions upon the structure of amalgams are derived. It is shown that the half-wave potential depends upon the saturation activity of the deposited metal or the metal-mercury compound as well as upon the activity of the mercury. It is also shown that the reversible half-wave potential is constant only below a certain activity of the metal ions which is a function of this saturation activity in the amalgam. The variation of she reversible half-wave potential with the activity of the metal ions when it exceeds the limiting concentration is indicated.
