Abstract

The Pastoral Office as a Task of Leadership in Post-Heroic Times. A Contribution to the Discussion referring to the Organization Theory of GarathMorgan. The growing complexity of pastoral work challenges pastors anew in their role as leaders. How do they manage the different challenges in a way that is both context appropriate and fitting to their role? It seems essential to deal with organizations in ways that recognize and adapt to their varying forms and expressions and, correspondingly, to seek to understand them from multiple perspectives. Contradictions have to be endured along the way. Appropriate forms of action are to be developed in relating to organizational typologies and in sensibility to specifics of the church’s self-perception.
