Abstract
In October 2004, an Interdisciplinary Hepatological Centerwas established at the University Hospital Mainz. Thecenter involves a hepatological ward of the Medical Departmentand the Department of Transplantation/HepatobiliopancreaticSurgery. In 2005 almost 2,000 patientswere treated in 45 beds. Patients from the surgical outpatientdepartment were increasingly treated (+17%) inthe hepatological part of the unit, and the hospital stay ofpatients with complicated postoperative courses were reducedby 21% due to the generation of common clinicalpathways. In 2005, the DRG proceeds increased by 30%compared to 2004.
