Abstract
This brief article outlines the history, actual situation and legal background of the historic German linguistic enclaves situated in the Italian regions of Aosta, Piedmont, Trentino-South Tyrol, Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. It focuses on the emergence and the activities of the Unity Committee, founded in 2001, which serves as an umbrella organisation to a number of cultural associations based in the various historic German linguistic enclaves.
