Abstract
en The preparation and crystal structure of tricarbonyl[1,2 : 4–5-η-(1,1,1-tricarbonyl-1-ferra-2-thia-4-cyclopentene-3-one)]iron are described. Thecompound can be prepared by thermal reaction of thiomaleic anhydride with Fe(CO) 5 in toluene (yield 6%). Crystal data: space group c2/ c; a = 11.651(11), b = 7.112(7), c = 29.653(32) Å, β = 94.14(4)°; Z = 8. With 1491 reflections [F o > 3o(F o)] the structure has been refined anisotropically (hydrogens isotropically) to R = 0.053. In the complex the fragment CHCHC(O)Sis attached to Fe 2(CO) 6 forming a ferra ring system. The organic moiety is σ-bonded (partial double bond; FeC 1.94 Å) to one iron atom and π-bonded by the CC double bond to the other iron atom. Furthermore both iron atoms are σ-bonded to sulfur and linked by a partial double bond (FeFe 2.53 Å). IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and mass spectroscopic data are reported.
