Abstract

GeBr 4 and NaCo(CO) 4 react to form the germylidyne—tricobalt cluster (CO) 9Co 3GeCo(CO) 4. The comparison of the IR and mass spectra with the silylidyne cluster (CO) 9Co 3SiCo(CO) 4, investigated by X-ray analysis, shows that (CO) 9CoGe7z.sbnd;Co(CO) 4 corresponds structurally to (CO) 9Co 3SiCo(CO) 4. The synthesis of the carbon homologue (CO) 9Co 3CCo(CO) 4 fails.
