Abstract

A balloon-borne experiment may have detected the most convincing signal yet of dark-matter particles. Physicists working on the Advanced Thin Ionization Calorimeter (ATIC) experiment, which has been undertaking flights over the Antarctic since 2000, claim that a “bump” in their data of high-energy electrons could be the product of dark-matter annihilation within our own galaxy, the Milky Way.
