Abstract

This Bible study on Dan 5:1-7, 8-31 aims at explaining the meaning originally intended of Dan 5:25. It is shown through an historical-critical analysis of the pericopy of Dan 5 that behind the version of the Massoretic Text, of the Septuagint and of Flavius Josephus there is hidden in verse 25 a theological refl ection on divine justice in the history of the world. Dan 5:25 contains a parable about a scale in history with which God balances the growing weight of the oppressed against the decreasing weight of the powerful.
