Abstract

Individual problems that are increasingly complex today can affect the quality of mental health. Individuals who are not able to handle the problem will feel depressed in their helplessness. If this happens continuously, it can prevent individuals from actualizing themselves in their daily lives. Professional assistance from a counselor is needed so that individuals can get dealing with their problems. Various expressive techniques in counseling such as the use of dance and movement therapy (Dance and Movement Therapy) can support the counseling process to make it more therapeutic. The purpose of writing this article is to examine basic knowledge about dance and movement therapy that is beneficial for personal growth and the counseling process. The literature review used several databases such as Google Scholar and Google Books as well as other supporting sources. The results of the study showed that the benefits of Dance and Movement Therapy are both for the individual's physical and mental health and can support the counseling process so that it runs therapeutically.
