Abstract

The phenomena of subsynchronous resonance (SSR) in power systems with series-compensated transmission lines have been the subject of many studies in the recent literature. A companion paper has dealt with the characterization of the various SSR phenomena, their zones of influence, and their dependence on the system parameters. This paper deals with the damping of torsional oscillations through the use of stabilizing signals introduced at the input of the excitation system. The scheme is applied to the IEEE bench mark model for computer simulation, proposed by the IEEE Task Force on Subsynchronous Resonance.
