Abstract
Abstract The response of cantilevered steel beams treated with various configurations of constrained viscoelastic layers is considered experimentally and analytically. Modal analyses and spike input tests are performed. Analysis of the response of the beams to spike input loading is performed in the time domain using a Prony series representation of viscoelastic behavior. The number of terms required in the series to adequately simulate damping is addressed. Comparison of both natural frequencies and damping factors show good agreement.
